The courtyards were largely designed by Capability Brown when he was undertaking structural changes to the domestic areas of the house in the eighteenth century. He built the Orangery and its imposing entrance from the Chestnut courtyard, where he raised the height of the Brewhouse and built the adjoining Stable courtyard. |
