  Shelia Landi

Sheila assessing a tapestry
In September 2002 the Kennel Yard workshop was opened, specially designed and equipped to deal with large objects, particularly tapestries, curtains and carpets. The technique used for tapestries has been developed at Burghley with the aim of keeping down costs within a very expensive field while maintaining a high standard of mechanical strength and aesthetics.

The recently formed Landi Company Ltd. evolved from the Textile Conservation Consultancy to provide conservation services for large, small, strange and rare textile objects. Estimates and reports are comprehensive and hourly rates ensure that projects are as economic as possible. The technique developed for tapestry conservation provides a less labour intensive, and thus more affordable, alternative to many other methods. Surveys of collections, storage and display advice, insurance work and on-site projects will be undertaken and a framing service can be offered to a high archival standard. The business has also hosted many students on placement from university courses.
