A chair from a large suite of George III mahogany chapel seat furniture, by Mayhew and Ince, London, circa 1768. Brownlow, the 9th Earl of Exeter, succeeded in 1754 and immediately set about an extensive redecoration and refitting of the entire house. As his metropolitan furniture supplier he favoured the firm of Mayhew & Ince and patronised them extensively for more than twenty years. |
