"The most extraordinary sight in all Europe." This famous quote by Mr Collins in Pride and Prejudice sums up the glorious south-west view of Burghley seen in the 2006 Working Title adaptation starring Keira Knightly and Matthew Macfayden. Filming at Burghley House lasted for four days in which Burghley portrayed Rosings, the home of Lady Catherine de Bourgh played by Dame Judi Dench.
Filming started in July 2004 and as well as some magnificent exterior shots, filming took place in the Heaven Room, which became Lady Catherine’s drawing room and the Bow Room, which was used as her dining room. The film crew used some furniture from the House and some of Burghley House’s staff were invited to play parts in the film. Lady Victoria’s butler was asked to play the role of Lady Catherine’s head footman and her imperious summons “Harvey” can even be heard in the film.
