Gift Aid

Why are there two different admission prices?
Under the Gift Aid Scheme amendments introduced by the Government in April 2006, charities who offer entrance to an attraction based on a gift aid donation rather than an admission ticket must ask visitors to pay at least 10% extra than the normal admission fee. It is your choice whether you wish to do this or not.

Who gets the money?
Burghley is owned and administered by Burghley House Preservation Trust, a non-profit making charity committed to the furthering of education and the preservation of Burghley House, its collections and environment. All money taken at our tills is put into the preservation and running of Burghley as a visitor attraction and caring for it for future generations to enjoy.

Enjoy a day out at England's greatest Elizabethan House.

The House is open from Saturday 17th March to Sunday 28th October 2012 daily (except Fridays) from 11am to 4.30pm with guides in the rooms to answer any questions that you may have. We will be open on Good Friday. You are welcome to spend as long as you wish in the State Rooms.

Audio guides both for adults and families are available priced at £2.50.  Both last approximately one hour and give unique behind the scenes stories as well as an informative and fun history of the house and collections.

Guided tours are also available for individual visits once a day at 3.00pm depending on availability, and last approximately one hour. Please enquire about tours on arrival. There are chairs in most rooms for those who wish to rest. If you wish to bring a group please visit our group page where more booking details can be found.

The Gardens of Surprise including the contemporary Sculpture Garden are open daily, including Fridays, from 17th March to 28th October 2012 from 11am to 5pm, last admission 4.30pm.

Admission to the Gift Shop and the Restaurant is free. Both are open during the winter period, from Wednesday to Sunday 11am to 4pm. The Gift Shop is open everyday except on Fridays during the open season and the Orangery Restaurant is open every day during the open season.
