Welcome to the educational facilities and learning opportunities available for you at Burghley. The newly completed Visitor and Education Complex within the Brewhouse Centre, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, provides a range of exciting and innovative facilities through which people of all ages can be introduced and explore the fascinating and exciting world of Burghley House.
For over 400 years Burghley House; with its remarkable architecture, superb decoration, unique contents, and intriguing history, has offered a variety of areas for study and interest. Through both formal and informal learning experiences we aim to lead you into many of the wonders of Burghley and its past.
Within the Brewhouse Centre visitors have the opportunity to interact with static and audio-visual displays to learn more about Burghley before entering the main house. During the school holidays small practical activities connected to Burghley are available for visiting children and their families to enjoy. Look out for details of short presentations available for visiting families. Aimed at children these sessions are intended to offer an insight into different aspects of the daily life and workings of Burghley House in earlier times.
We are delighted to welcome school and university groups to Burghley to follow one of the themed tours we offer, or to make a general visit to the house. A variety of themes are available and for those which follow an historical focus pupils are encouraged to arrive dressed in simple, home-made costume of the period. Practical activities are incorporated within the visit to encourage enjoyment, participation and to broaden learning experiences. An educational visit to the house can be extended further to include a walk in the delightful sculpture garden area. Here you are able to book a practical sculpture workshop with an art specialist in our Art Workroom.
While visits to the house are restricted to its open season, April 1st – October 31st, learning opportunities for school groups are now available all year round. Please watch for details of both the summer and winter education courses available.
Opportunities for adults to participate in learning experiences are offered at various times throughout the year. Topics cover a range of interests including historical and arts areas and can involve practical sessions as well as formal lectures and presentations.
We look to inspire people´s interest and knowledge through what is a truly inspiring place. For further details of all learning opportunities or to make educational group bookings please contact our Director of Education Mr. Alwyn Pollard, Tel: 01780 761996 email: education@burghley.co.uk
