The gardens and parkland at Burghley were designed by Lancelot ’Capability’ Brown in the eighteenth century. Today, sweeping vistas down to the spires of Stamford with the backdrop of the House create the perfect canvas for open air classical concerts, wedding receptions and events.
Opened in 2007 the new Garden of Surprises is a fantastic addition to the gardens at Burghley . Hidden inside a Yew hedge is an experience that will delight the senses. Mirrors exaggerate, mazes confuse, squirts of water distract, the dank moss house captivates, transforming sculptures dazzle, the grotto entices and the longitude dial educates and astonishes!
Lady Victoria has further augmented the beautiful grounds with a feast of modern sculpture which is host to an annual exhibition. Fifteen acres have been reclaimed from scrub woodland and transformed into a beautiful and tranquil planted area with mown paths and a lakeside walk.
