House Office Administrator

We are recruiting a new Administrator to join our growing visitor operations team in Burghley House. Reporting to the House Operations Manager, the role is varied, challenging and fast paced, and includes the following:

House Office Administration

  • Dealing with general telephone and email enquiries and liaising with members of the public.
  • End of day financial reconciliation and banking.
  • Assist in the administration of the EPOS, bookings and online ticketing systems.
  • Administration of discount vouchers and complimentary tickets.
  • Processing refunds.
  • Provide first aid support and Fire Marshall duties. (Training provided.)
  • Assist Operations Manager when required.

Weekend Duty Manager

  • Co-ordination and supervision of Front of House Staff and Guides.
  • Ensure that the House and State Rooms are presentable and ready for opening.
  • Dealing with visitor enquiries and troubleshooting any issues that arise throughout the day.

Group Bookings

  • Organisation and communication with group travel organisers.
  • Liaison with various departments regarding visit details.
  • Follow up letters and questionnaires.

Friends of Burghley & Memberships

  • Entering members details on the database.
  • Printing and issuing membership cards.
  • Answer any enquiries relating to Friends of Burghley membership.

Misc

  • Ticket desk duties - covering lunch breaks for Front of House Staff if required.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Strong customer service ethos essential.
  • Excellent IT skills essential.
  • Highly organised with a strong attention to detail.
  • Calm under pressure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated; able to work as part of a team or individually.
  • Empathy for Historic House environment.

Working pattern: Generally 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, Monday to Friday with additional Duty weekends. Must be available to work approximately 1 weekend in every 3 (exact rota tbc) between March and end October, plus additional events throughout the year.

Porter

We are looking to recruit a Porter to join our team at Burghley House.

Duties will include, general security duties whilst open to the public and during evening events, unlocking the House and Park in the morning and relocking at night. The management of the fire and intruder alarm systems and reacting to any activations. Assisting visitors to the House with any enquiries they may have and helping visitors with limited mobility to use the chairlifts. General assistance to set up events in the House. Ensuring a high standard of presentation of the House and visitor areas. Delivery of the internal post to the Estate Office daily. Minor maintenance tasks as directed. General tasks as instructed by the House Director or House Manager. The role is full time and hours are worked on a rota system with other Porters.

Accommodation will be provided within Burghley Park.

Housekeeper – 4 days a week

We are looking for a Housekeeper to join our team based at Burghley House. Main duties will include dusting/detailing of fragile items, polishing brass, hoovering, buffering and mopping floors, making beds in guest rooms and cleaning bathrooms and deep cleaning a room as a team. The role will involve working at heights.

We are looking for someone with a good eye for detail and precision, someone who is hardworking and who can work well in a team. We need our Housekeepers to have a high standard of cleaning and to be flexible. Previous experience of working in a stately home/heritage setting is desirable however, full training will be provided for care of more vulnerable and fragile furnishings and works of art.

The role is working from Saturday-Tuesday.

Housekeeper – 1 day a week

We are looking for a Housekeeper to join our team. The role will be based at our luxury holiday let on the Estate. Main duties will include cleaning bathrooms, making beds, steam cleaning, cleaning kitchens, and deep cleaning rooms. The role will involve working at heights.

We are looking for someone who has a good eye for detail and precision, is hard working and who can self-motivate, and someone who can work well on their own and as a team. We need someone who can clean to a high standard.

The role will be working 1 day a week either on a Monday or a Friday.

Maintenance Assistant for Burghley House & Estate

We are recruiting for a Maintenance Assistant to work at Burghley House and Estate and across our full property portfolio of residential and commercial buildings.

The role includes undertaking reactive and planned maintenance and minor works alongside colleagues within the Estate Maintenance team. The team includes Joiners, Painters & Decorators, Roofers and Stone Masons.

The role includes undertaking emergency, reactive and cyclical maintenance, repairs and minor new works, in line with industry standards, statutory requirements, relevant codes of practice, all in a professional and customer focused manner.

Tasks may include

  • Drainage related service, repairs and maintenance
  • Minor plumbing jobs
  • Minor electrical jobs
  • Tiling works to showers, bathrooms, kitchens etc.
  • Plastering, patching works
  • Joinery, for example flooring, fitting skirting and architraves, replacing door handles, easing / adjusting / fitting new locks etc., and making good on completion
  • Completion of various inspections as directed by the Head of Building Services
  • Minor decoration works
  • Fitting of life safety systems, for example smoke detectors, and CO2 detectors
  • Replacing light bulbs or tubes and fuses
  • Replacing toilet seats, flush handles, and various dispensers
  • Assessing and completing all necessary pre-let repairs and advising on time scale to get in and turn around properties
  • Triaging jobs before contractors attend and reporting back to the Head of Building Services.
  • To provide help and assistance with preparation for park events as required
  • Any other general maintenance task or other reactionary work that arises and that you are equipped to fulfil

Additional Requirements

  • You will participate in the team’s emergency out of hours “on-call rota” – 1 week in every 4 (including weekends).
  • You may be asked to undertake the work of any trade which you are capable of and have the necessary training and instruction.
  • You will undertake a dynamic risk assessment specific to every task you undertake.
  • You should complete and submit necessary paperwork, e.g. inspection records, records of timing, and materials used, as appropriate.
  • You might be required to assist with stock control, materials purchasing, collection and delivery of equipment and materials as necessary.
  • You are required to hold a current full driving licence to drive Burghley House Preservation Trust vehicles, to enable you to carry out offsite/inter-site travel, delivery and collection of staff, materials and equipment to and from various sites across the estate.

Burghley Park Golf Club - Apprentice Chef

The role as commis chef is a great way of getting started in a kitchen. It provides a means of learning a range of key skills on the job, including preparing food and carrying out basic cooking tasks under the supervision of a more senior chef.

Recently Chartered Building Surveyor

The Estate is seeking a recently qualified Building Surveyor to assist the Head of Building Services in all aspects of managing property and estate maintenance, including all commercial and residential properties, new capital development projects and Burghley House itself and its surrounding heritage buildings.

The role will be very varied and offer a raft of challenges and experience. Example day to day responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out inspections including: initial feasibility studies, measured surveys, pre-acquisition and pre-lease surveys, building condition, dilapidations and building pathology reporting, collection and collation of services information and plans, pre paint repair surveys, fabric failures surveys, quality checks
  • Formulating the information for Listed building consent and planning applications
  • Preparing drawings and specifications including floor plans, site plans, service plans and more
  • Producing programmes of work
  • Consulting with all stakeholders
  • Ensuring that all works are carried out to the defined specific standards, building codes, guidelines and regulations
  • Assisting Head of Building Services with supervising the Estate Maintenance team as appropriate

Key skills required

  • APC qualified
  • Excellent drawing skills and familiarity with CAD design software
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent project management skills
  • A passion for working on a varied property portfolio including heritage properties
  • Strong imagination and ability to think and create in three dimensions
  • Possess a commitment to delivering high quality service in an organised and timely fashion
  • Must be a team player with the ability to work independently
  • Full driving licence with the ability to travel independently

Burghley Park Golf Club - Chef

Minimum of 20-25 hours per week, plus potential additional hours for functions

We are looking for a flexible, adaptable and enthusiastic Chef / Cook to join our team at Burghley Park Golf Club.

Candidates will need to be able to work off own initiative. This role includes the preparation, cooking of meals, and serving food.

Experience in using tills desirable.

You will also cover for the Chef on their days off and when on holiday, as well as additional support as required for functions. Previous Chef/Cooking experience is essential.

Hourly rate £9-11.50/hour dependent on experience.
